one bedroom luxury work/live residences. proposed for a site in West Hollywood, the Z is a blank canvas for people who love what they do for work. when people love what they do, the line between ‘work’ and ‘live’ becomes a moveable border. the line can veer so far outside of their field of view that it can seemingly cease to exist. the Z is both a departure and a return to a self-made invented life.
the entrance façade employs a literal application of the Z concept. loosely woven fragments interlock, defining each space with a unique dynamic flow.
the front entry door opens to the stairs leading up to the second floor living room and kitchen. behind the stairs is the utility hallway including a wash basin, work bench with storage, washer and dryer, and a bathroom at the far end of the space.
view of the open kitchen from the second floor staircase leading up to the third floor bar, kitchenette, and roof deck.
second floor living room with a Juliet balcony nook and folding glass panels leading to a large semi-covered balcony.
the ground floor consists of the main entry, utility hallway, bathroom, garage, and bedroom or office.
the second floor contains another bathroom, kitchen with walk-in pantry, living room, and balcony.
the third floor is largely unfinished. a small kitchenette is the only enclosed area. the rest of the floor is semi-covered roof deck with side walls outfitted to receive roof joists. this provides the option to the owner to enclose more or all of the roof deck, allowing for future expansion with minimally invasive construction.
